Cool Cheetah Facts

Cheetahs can't roar because they do not have an elastic ligament in their throats that would allow them to open their mouth wide enough to roar.

Cheetahs have small teeth.  In order to run so fast, they need large nasal passages to breath in enough air.  And with such big nasal passages they don't have room for the roots of big teeth.

Cheetahs mark their territory by spraying smelly liquid on trees.  The smell keeps other cheetahs away.

Cheetahs live in African and Asian savannahs or areas with tall grass, bushes, and other tall plants to hide from enemies.  This habitat is called a semi-desert.

Cheetahs often stretch their backs and legs in a behavior called "rumping".

Cheetahs protect their young from predators.

Cheetahs usually lick each other or lay down in the shade to keep cool.

Cheetahs like to climb on trees for fun or sometimes to look for prey.  They are good climbers because their claws don't retract.
